Journal Current
Biology recently published a study by the researchers of Biozentrum of the
University of Basel. They proposed that an amino acid signal is necessary for
fault free cell division. This amino acid signal is used to regulate the number
of centrosomes in the cell, and their absence results in the development of
pathologically altered cells. The centrosome which is a tiny cell
organelle plays a decisive role in cell division process. The Ken-Box is the
signal that orders the protein degradation machinery to break down the STIL
protein, which degrades during cell division. Microcephaly is a cell division
disorder and this new study may help in knowing the origin of the disorder.
